BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development

The BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport at FCV International Football Academy offers students aged 16-19 the opportunity to combine elite football training with a high-quality education delivered by Loughborough College, one of the top sports colleges in the world. This program is designed for students aiming for a career in professional football, coaching, sports science, or related fields and provides pathways to degree level study in the United Kingdom. Enrolment takes place every September and January, allowing students to start their journey at multiple points throughout the year.

Football Training & Matches

Players train for 20 hours a week with UEFA-qualified coaches, focusing on technical skills, tactical awareness, physical conditioning, and match preparation. Regular league fixtures on Wednesdays provide the chance to compete against top academy teams, gaining valuable experience and exposure.

Beyond regular training and league matches, our academy offers clear player pathways that allow talent to progress from youth development into professional football. Whether aiming for a place in higher-tier academy teams or progressing into professional contracts, our pathways are tailored to ensure every player has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Academic studies take place at Loughborough College, known for its world-class sports education and strong links to professional sports organisations. The college provides expert tutors, modern facilities, and a supportive learning environment to help students succeed in their studies. Rated “Good” by Ofsted, the college offers an exceptional learning experience that combines academic excellence with elite sports development, ensuring students are equipped for both their education and athletic careers.

Units of Study

Students complete a variety of units covering key areas of sport:

  • Unit A: Careers in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry – Explore career options and industry skills.
  • Unit B: Health, Wellbeing and Sport – Understand physical and mental health in sports.
  • Unit C1: Developing Coaching Skills – Learn techniques to coach effectively.
  • Unit D1: Applied Coaching Skills – Plan and implement coaching programs.
  • Unit E: Research Project in Sport – Conduct independent research in a sports context.
  • Unit 1: Sport Development – Study the principles of sport development and key organisations.
  • Unit 2: Self-Employment in Sport and Physical Activity – Develop business skills in the sports industry.

Grading and Assessment

There are no formal exams. Instead, students are assessed through:

  • Assignments
  • Presentations
  • Practical coaching assessments
  • Research projects

Grades are awarded as:

  • Distinction (D)
  • Merit (M)
  • Pass (P)
  • Unclassified (U)

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including English and Maths (or equivalent international qualifications).

BTEC Timetable

Here is our weekly timetable for the BTEC Diploma program, alongside our football training sessions and matches:

Course Fees

  • UK Residential Students – £30,500 per year
  • EU & International Residential Students – £35,000 per year
  • Deposit to Secure Place – £3,500

Fees payable in instalments throughout the year.

Visa Information

FCV’s Admissions Team, in partnership with Loughborough College’s Admissions Team, provides support and guidance for all players and families throughout the student visa application process.

At the end of the process, students will receive a CAS Statement (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies), which allows international students to study in the UK. The CAS Statements will be issued by Loughborough College once the following processes have been completed (FCV Admissions will provide support for families in this process).

  1. Complete Loughborough College online application form (FCV Admissions team will provide application link).
  2. IELTS – International English Language Test – Dependent on passport/qualifications.
  3. Your Tuberculosis test certificate – Dependent on country of residence.
  4. Available funds – Required by UKVI in the form of a bank statement.
  5. Healthcare surcharge – Contribution towards UK healthcare.
