Watts excited about what lies ahead for FCV
Head of Talent Development, Ben Watts feels there’s never been a better time to join FCV International Football Academy.
Watts says the atmosphere which surrounds the Academy is an extremely positive one — from both the students and staff.
With FCV’s next week-long development camp commencing on 23rd October, he sees now as a perfect chance to get involved with the setup at Stamford.
“There’s a really good buzz about the place,” he said. “Staff want to be there and they want to be in. We’re doubling up on sessions together, and we’re constantly coaching.
“We’re as close to 50 as we’ve ever been, and it’s around the 46 or 47 mark. That includes short courses, but they are being filled up on a regular basis.
“There’s such a good feeling about the place at the minute - it’s a good place to be working.”
Short course opportunities are also available at FCV, something which Watts explained has proved a real success on both sides.
He explained: “What I like about FCV, is that any player who attends a short course for any duration is treated the same.
“You could be there for three or four weeks, but you’ll still train as if you’re going to be there throughout the whole season.
“If a player does come in on a short course, we want them to stay, and we’re having that at the minute.
“There’s an Australian boy over called Sam Walker, who has come in and been here for three weeks. He’s made an impression on us; we like him, he likes us, so he’s extended for another four weeks.”
Looking ahead, Watts believes things are bright for the Academy, and he’s looking forward to seeing the talent which exists, coming to fruition.
“The programme is selling itself. The sessions are good, the games are good, and we’ve started fairly well in the competitions — but the U21’s especially has got a good feeling about it,” he declared.
“From my point of view, recruiting a lot of the boys over the summer and seeing them here is good for me.”
