Seventh heaven as FootballCV start season in style

FooballCV Academy kicked off their season in style with a convincing 7-0 home win over Maltby Main on a scorching hot day at Borderville.
Clearly eager to impress new boss Grant Brown, FCV were quickly out of the blocks and took a 2-0 lead inside five minutes courtesy of a brace from Sven Hart - Brandon Taverner assisting on both occasions.
The defence had to be alert to keep out the threat of Maltby Main who, after a slow start, began to pose a few problems for the home team. However, FCV were a constant threat with good build-up play from Harry Whittington, Paolo Prato, William Green, Ilja Fjodorovs and the excellent Taverner.
It soon became 3-0 after more good work from Taverner found Whittington inside the 18-yard box and he coolly finished. On the stroke of half time it was 4-0, with Lee Godzisz heading home from a Fjodorovs corner.
After the break, a similarly good start saw the home team extend their lead with Prato's fine strike from outside the box, before another Fjodorovs corner found Taverner to head home from close range.
Whittington rounded the scoring with a good finish after being played through by Fjodorovs.
The manager was unsurprisingly pleased with the season opener, Brown reflecting: "Overall, a very good start to the season. There's still plenty to improve on, but a very good base to work from."
On to the next one...
