Rahim fires FCV up the ECFA league table
Khalid Rahim netted four goals to send FCV Academy on their way to a 5-1 victory over Grantham Town in the English Colleges League.
Grant Brown’s side raced out of the traps at Borderville and took the lead just six minutes in, when Rahim got on the end of a Beknur Uulu pass and slotted home.
However, Grantham were soon level. The visitors were awarded a penalty, which FCV goalkeeper Charley Giffen kept out, but he was helpless to deny the rebound.
Rudolf Blagogee was a constant threat for the home side, and he got a deserved goal to put the Academy back ahead.
The Ghanaian’s strike was followed with a perfect team goal on the stroke of half-time. The ball was worked out from the back and through the midfield, before Blagogee turned provider to give Rahim his second and send the Academy in to the changing rooms 3-1 up.
The visiting Gingerbreads managed to stem the flow of FCV’s attacking play after the break, but they could only hold tight for so long and Rahim inevitably completed his hat-trick to make it 4-1.
After both sides made a number of changes, Ndung’u Memba took the game by the scruff of the neck to ensure the Academy remained dominant. It was his pass that set up Rahim’s fourth, to give the hosts a comprehensive 5-1 triumph and joint leadership of the league.
