FCV Stamford have it all to play for heading into 2020 and with the Christmas break approaching now seems like a good time to take a look at the season so far.

The team is made up of FCV Academy students, meaning the age range of the squad varies from 16 to 21. As a result, the team have played in a variety of competitions this season and have been competing well across the board.

The competitions that FCV Stamford are taking part in this season are the English Colleges League, Midland Football League U21 and the National League U19 Alliance. The last of these competitions was particularly successful for the team last season as they won their division and finished as one of the top four teams in the country.

National League U19 Alliance

The National League U19 alliance is a competition that the team hopes to perform well in given their success last year. The players have started in the right way picking up four wins from their first six games and sit three points behind first place.
It is very close at the top of this division with the top 4 teams separated by three points. While this represents an exciting prospect for the second half of the season it means that the players will have to remain consistent to still be in the mix towards the end of the season.

Midland Football League U21 East

The Midland Football League U21 East is another competition where FCV Stamford have made a strong start to the season. With five wins from eight games, they sit in 5th place in the table, four points away from second place.
This division represents a different challenge for the players as although they sit 15 points behind first place, they also have five games in hand. The team is still therefore very much in the hunt, however, they will have to deal with the pressure of chasing down the league leaders and can’t afford to many slip-ups along the way.

English Colleges League East Midlands Region

In this League, FCV Stamford are currently in joint second place, but as only four games have been played in this competition there still a long way to go. The team can, however, take positives from the way they have performed in this competition so far, scoring 13 goals in four games. Some of the other teams have also made very strong starts in this league meaning it will provide a tough test for the players in 2020.

There are lots of positives to take from the way that the whole FCV Stamford squad has performed in the first half of the season, particularly in terms of goalscoring. Here are some of the standout results:

23rd October – FCV Stamford beat Derby 9-2 in the English Colleges League East Midlands Region.

2nd November – FCV Stamford beat Milton Keynes 8-1 in the Midland Football League Challenge Bowl Cup

20th November – FCV Stamford score eight goals in a game for the second time in two weeks as the beat Rushden 8-0 in the National League U19 Alliance.

Looking ahead towards 2020 the team will want to ensure that they continue their fantastic goalscoring form while becoming a bit stronger defensively. If the coaching staff and the players can achieve this then there is no reason why the team can’t be in the mix in all competitions come the end of the season.
