Ilja Fjodorovs named FCV Academy's September Player of the Month
FCV's Ilja Fjodorovs has been named the Player of the Month for September.
The Latvian-born central midfielder is now in his second year at the Academy and continues to go from strength to strength.
Academy manager Grant Brown has been mightily impressed by the 18-year-old’s performances in matches over the last month, but it wasn’t just those which achieved the accolade for September’s winner.
“Ilja’s performances in matches and in training have been to a very high standard,” Brown exclaimed.
“It’s the stuff he does off the pitch too. He’s always looking to help out, whether that be getting the equipment in and out at training or helping to clear up around Gardenhouse.
“He’s a great character to have in and around the squad, he’s done really well in the past five or six weeks. It’s thoroughly deserved in all aspects of the programme.
“He knows why he’s earned the award. I’m sure it’ll inspire the other lads to keep working hard and doing the right things.”
The Player of the Month award is something new to FCV, being introduced by Brown and fellow coach Ben Watts.
Fjodorovs is, therefore, the first recipient of the certificate and Sports Direct voucher, and Brown believes it adds an extra incentive for the players to work hard.
“Player of the Month gives the players something to work towards each day,” the Academy boss explained.
“The players are here to work hard on the pitch but this award is about more than that, we consider all elements of life at the academy.
“The award allows them to go and get themselves something that they’ve worked their socks off to earn.
“It has a positive impact on the environment we’re working in, and that can only be good.”
