Ian Sampson returns to FCV Academy coaching role
Ian Sampson, former head coach at FCV Academy, has returned to form part of an expert coaching team.
Sampson held the role for two years before moving on at the end of the 2014/15 campaign, and has plenty of experience and expertise to pass on to the Academy students.
Much like current manager Grant Brown, Sampson boasts a long and successful Football League career, making over 400 club appearances for Sunderland and Northampton Town.
Upon his retirement in 2004, Sammo, as he is affectionately known, continued his Cobblers stint, taking on roles as youth team coach, and then first team coach. He was handed the first team manager position in 2009, and guided the club to one of the most famous results in their history – a League Cup win over Liverpool at Anfield.
The 47-year-old has had further coaching and scouting roles since – Newcastle United and Crystal Palace among them – and now can impart his knowledge on the new FCV Academy crop.
