Four-star Khalid Rahim fires FCV Academy to victory
The first of two Wednesday games saw FCV secure a comfortable 4-1 triumph over CKW Academy in the English Colleges League.
Good use of the ball in the early moments of the game saw front man Khalid Rahim grab his first of four goals, giving FCV a deserved 1-0 lead after just eight minutes.
The game was very hectic at times with no side really taking control, and the visitors found themselves back in the game following some slack marking at a corner kick. A whipped-in set play found an unmarked opponent, and it was 1-1.
The half progressed in much the same manner, with neither team able to get a foothold, but Rahim restored the advantage to give FCV a 2-1 half-time lead.
The teamtalk at the break was very much based around taking control of the game and keeping possession of the football, and the players seemed to take that on board as the second half got under way.
CKW Academy made it tough, and a spell of few chances and frustration for their hosts meant that the next goal was key - and it was FCV that got it. Rahim was brightest from a quick throw and a two-touch finish gave the Academy a cushion and the Kenyan striker his hat-trick.
As the game became increasingly scrappy, chances were being created by both sides and Rahim soon notched his fourth with 10 minutes to spare. That put the outcome beyond any doubt and all three points were secured. Overall, a good win for the squad and management team.
