FootballCV's 100% start to the season ends at Boston United
FCV Academy's perfect start to the season came to an end with a 2-0 defeat to Boston United in the National League U19 Alliance.
While FCV were in possession of a 100 per cent record, Boston came into the game off the back of one win and one defeat.
Both sides endured a scrappy first half, Brandon Taverner had the best of the chances for the Academy but United’s goalkeeper kept him at bay.
The travelling Academy side then came under pressure themselves, but some astute work in defence ensured both sides went in goalless at the break.
After the interval, the hosts continued to pile on the pressure but FCV always looked dangerous on the counter attack through Sven Hart, Iija Fjodorovs and Josh Spencer. However, the Academy then found themselves behind.
Hart saw an effort rebound off the post, and the young Pilgrims took the opportunity to launch a counter attack of their own. The break was halted by a foul in the area, and Boston made no mistake from the penalty spot.
The hosts added a second shortly after which came after FCV conceded a free-kick in a dangerous area. So dangerous that the resulting effort found the back of the net.
From then on, there was no way back as Boston saw the game out to end the unbeaten run. However, there was good news in the ECFA East Midlands League as FCV recorded a 6-1 win over New Stamford College.
