FCV score five in victory over Peterborough United
FCV Academy maintained their unbeaten start to 2017 in the National League U19 Alliance with a 5-2 win against Peterborough United.
Grant Brown's side made a promising start to the match with a well-worked Brandon Taverner goal, before the lead was doubled on 20 minutes through an unlikely source.
Full-back Adam Keal picked up the ball and unleashed a shot from distance into the back of the net, and Harry Whittington made it three on the stroke of half-time with a smart finish from the edge of the penalty area.
The Posh came out after the break looking for a reaction and it's exactly what they got, heading home early in the second half to reduce the deficit. With FCV rattled, the hosts added another goal to spark fears of a comeback, but it was not to be.
Now with just a goal lead, the Academy sprung back into action as Sven Hart finished a fine move to make it 4-2, and January's Player of the Month T'ai Williams then got in on the act to grab the fifth and final goal, capping off a fine victory.
The triumph leaves Brown's side just three points adrift of table-topping Basford United.
