FCV make it two away wins in a week with triumph at Loughborough College
FCV Academy won 6-1 at Loughborough College on Wednesday afternoon, earning a vital three points to take them to the top of their English Colleges League group.
Playing on the college’s brand new 4G pitch, FCV got off to a flyer. Lewis Saunders was up from the back for a set-piece and rocketed home a header from a fine Ilja Fjodorovs delivery.
The lead was doubled soon after thanks to a Harry Whittington strike, and before the 15-minute mark, Grant Brown’s side made it three. This time it was front man Josh Egbuson after he was given room on the edge of the penalty box.
Then, on the brink of half-time, FCV Academy added a fourth. Two of the goalscorers joined forces, with Saunders playing in Whittington, and he provided a beautiful finish to complete a first-half brace.
Five minutes into the second period, FCV got a well deserved fifth. Flowing football in the build up afforded Rudolf Blagogee space, and the Ghanaian capped off an impressive week by firing in from 25 yards.
Brown’s side made it 6-0 on the hour when Khalid Rahim, who had been desperate for a goal throughout the match, finally took his opportunity by converting a rebound.
The hosts got a goal back shortly before the final whistle to round off the scoring, but that was the only downside to what was a convincing FCV display.
Next up for FCV, a home match against AFC Rushden & Diamonds on Wednesday.
