FCV Academy win 10-goal semi-final thriller

FCV Academy qualified for the final of the Central Conference League Cup last week after coming from behind to beat Ilkeston 6-4.

It was a nightmare start for Grant Brown’s side who conceded in the first and third minute.

Two minutes later, they hit back. Khalid Rahim pounced on a parried Sven Hart strike to head home, completing a wild opening five minutes which set the tone for the remainder of the match-up.

FCV’s fightback looked to be merely a cameo, though. By the 20-minute mark, the hosts were 4-1 down.

However, in-form striker Harry Whittington reduced the arrears, a lobbed finish from 25 yards ensuring his side were just two goals down at the break.

FCV have produced comebacks aplenty this season, though, and they came out for the second half knowing exactly what they needed to do if they were to reach the Final.

A number of chances came and went, but the third goal eventually arrived, courtesy of another poacher's finish from Rahim; 4-3.

The scores were soon level, with defender Lewis Saunders heading home a fine Hart free-kick, and now the momentum was very much in FCV’s favour.

Richard Abel was the man to put the hosts in front for the first time, creating and finishing the opportunity himself to make it 5-4, and Ghana U17 international Rudolf Blagogee completed the scoring with virtually the last kick of the game.

The fantastic comeback  sets up a tie with Brooke House College in the final, where the winner will be crowned Central Conference League Cup champions.
