FCV Academy students step up for United Counties League debuts
Two promising FCV Academy youngsters made their United Counties League debuts at the weekend, turning out for Eynesbury Rovers in a 2-1 reverse against Oadby Town.
Joshua Egbuson and Brandon Taverner have both caught the eye while on Academy duty this season, and Rovers, who sit second in the UCL Premier Division, recently moved to acquire their services.
In Saturday's fixture, 18-year-old Egbuson started for his new side and got 90 minutes under his belt, while Taverner was introduced to proceedings as a half-time substitute.
The pair linked up to good effect after the break, with Egbuson heading a Taverner cross narrowly over the bar with the scores level at 1-1. Taverner, who won FCV Academy's Scholar competition earlier this year, then produced another fine ball in for what Rovers thought was a late winner, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.
There was late heartache as Oadby grabbed the decisive goal deep into stoppage time, but the FCV Academy duo can be pleased with their maiden efforts for their new club.
