FCV Academy rescue draw against Boston United
FCV Academy’s unbeaten start to 2017 in the National League U19 Alliance continued on Wednesday when they fought back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 against Boston United at Borderville
A sloppy start again threatened to ruin the Academy’s day, with Grant Brown’s side finding themselves 2-0 early on, but they soon settled to steady the ship.
FCV got back into the game through T’ai Williams, the Bermudan age-grade international continuing his impressive start to the year with another goal.
Despite the hosts asserting themselves onto the match, they let their concentration slip and the impressive attack of Boston took full advantage to leave FCV 3-1 down at the break.
The introduction of the returning Brandon Taverner and Josh Spencer gave the Academy a lift after half-time, and the game was there for taking with the hosts pushing Boston back with ease.
A goal soon came, Harry Whittington the man to send the ball home and give Brown’s side the belief that they could go on and get a result.
The equaliser then followed, and it was the two returning players who linked up to devastating effect. Spencer curled a delightful cross into the box, and there was Taverner to rise highest and head home.
There was to be no winner though as the sides shared the spoils, with the result keeping FCV in fourth and six points off the top.
The Academy's next fixture comes on Friday against the Strachan Football Foundation at Rugby Town FC.
