FCV Academy leave Lincoln with three points
Football CV Reds travelled to Lincoln College to play their opening fixture of the ECFA East Midlands season.
The home team started the brighter and created a few half chances which they were unable to finish but, after seeing out the early pressure, FCV settled and began to establish themselves in the game.
Richard Abel, Paulo Prato, Sven Hart, Ilja Fjodorovs and Harry Whittington were all involved as the Academy created chances, but were unable to get a shot on target. Fine approach play down the left-hand side from Hart released Adam Keal whose cross found Brandon Taverner, but his effort at goal went wide.
Despite the Academy creating the better chances, the sides remained level at the break.
FCV started the second half brightly, and this time Taverner made no mistake. Good interplay between Fjodorovs and Rudolf Blagogee on the edge of the box released Taverner, who took a touch before finding the bottom corner with a left-footed strike.
The lead was doubled five minutes later when Fjodorovs' corner from the left found Lee Godzisz, who beat his marker and planted his header in off the post.
More good play created good openings for the visitors, with Fjodorovs and Taverner keeping the home goalkeeper busy.
Lincoln pulled a goal back in the 89th minute to set up a nervy last few minutes, but FCV managed to see out the game and secure a 2-1 triumph.
