FCV Academy hit nine past Maltby Main in crushing away win
FCV Academy made it two wins from two for 2017 in the National League U19 Alliance, romping to a 9-3 victory over Maltby Main.
The journey to Sheffield seemed to take its toll, with Grant Brown’s side starting sluggishly and finding themselves two goals down after just 10 minutes.
The goals sparked FCV into life though, and they were soon back in the match. A penalty from Sven Hart was quickly followed by goals from Harry Whittington, T’ai Williams and a long-range strike from Richard Abel.
With the Academy 4-2 up at half-time, their hopes of defending their lead were seemingly dealt a blow – goalkeeper Charley Giffen suffered an injury and, with no substitute stopper, goalscorer Williams had to don the gloves.
The change at the back didn’t faze FCV though, Whittington executing two fine finishes after the break to complete his hat-trick and make it six.
More goals followed as Hart doubled his tally, Paolo Prato produced a fine finish into the top corner and, shortly after Maltby Main had grabbed a third, Patrick Muhiwa fired home a header from an Ilja Fjodorovs corner.
The victory for Brown’s side moves them up to fourth in the league and just four points off top spot.
