FCV Academy hit magnificent seven past Ilkeston
FCV Academy hosted Ilkeston in their second match in the Central Conference Reserve Cup, running out convincing 7-3 winners.
FCV were in need of a win to maintain hopes of qualification from the group stage and got off to a perfect start, finding themselves 2-0 up after half an hour.
A lapse in concentration saw the visitors get a goal back and that was soon followed by another error which led to Ilkeston’s second – those two mistakes meaning that Grant Brown’s side went in level at the break.
With the manager’s words ringing in their ears, the Academy flew out of the traps in the second half and went 5-2 up with relative ease.
Ilkeston refused to give up though, and made their hosts pay after yet another mishap to make it 5-3.
The Academy again managed to take control of the situation, adding another two strikes to make it 7-3 and complete the entertaining 10-goal encounter.
The FCV goals came courtesy of a hat-trick from the in-form Brandon Taverner, two from November’s Player of the Month Khalid Rahim, and further efforts from Lewis Saunders and Saleh Ahmed.
