FCV Academy – 2016/17 season review
FCV Academy completed its 10th season last week culminating in the end of season awards ceremony and showcase match at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium.
The final match was watched by more than 10 scouts representing clubs from the Premier League, EFL and National League. Sven Hart was named the Academy Player of the Year and first-year student Ta’i Williams was voted the Players Player of the Year.
All students studying the BTEC Sport Studies completed the course, with their grades due to be confirmed later in the summer whilst 11 students also passed their FA Level 1 coaching course.
During the course of the season, three players had trial opportunities at English Football League Two club Mansfield Town, second-year student Robbie Green had trials at LA Galaxy, Rudolf Blagogee joined up with the Ghana U17s, short-course student Saleh Ahmad represented Lebanon in two international friendly matches at U20 and U23 level, and the squad as a whole were watched by over 50 scouts at league fixtures and showcase matches.
Thirteen students visited Sweden in April to spend 15 days with professional clubs Lindsdals IF and Kalmar FF.
FCV had one of their most successful seasons in recent years, finishing fifth in the National League Alliance U19 division and second in the English Colleges League East U19. The team also reached the final of both the Central Conference Reserve Cup and Mike Hughes Memorial Shield, but unfortunately were runners-up in both.
Kevin Friend, one of England's top referees, visited the Academy to give the FCV players a talk on refereeing and career progression, before officiating a friendly match.
The 2017/18 season promises to be even more exciting…
FCV, going into its 11th year, will now be known as FCV International Football Academy and for next season has partnered with the UK’s top sporting college, Loughborough, to deliver its academic courses.
FCV will enter a new additional league to assist in player development – the Midland Football U21 League – and in September will commence with its football programme in Mumbai, India.
