Ben Watts: FCV's latest addition to the coaching team

Ben Watts is the latest appointment to the staff at the FCV, further enhancing the Academy's expert coaching team.

The 36-year-old is another welcome addition to the setup, with more than 15 years of knowledge and experience gained at clubs such as Peterborough United and Northampton Town.

What are your thoughts on life at the FCV Academy so far?

It's early days but all players and staff have been really accommodating. I have loved the sessions and games that I have been involved with, you can't beat being out on the grass.

You've been working alongside new Head Coach Grant Brown, how have you found that so far?

Grant has been brilliant, he's a very experienced manager and as I've been the manager in the past, this is a great opportunity for me to learn. We seem to have hit it off in terms of our ideas for the Academy and I really enjoy working with him. It's only been a short time so far, but things are going well, it's a promising sign.

What about the other staff, and the players?

It's a great place to work, and we're getting on very well in the offices whilst all working hard to improve the company. Joe [England, Academy administrator] has even provided me with my own desk!

What do you feel you can add to the operation at the FCV Academy?

The main thing is experience both on and off the pitch. Having been involved in sports at a semi-professional and professional level for the majority of my life, I have seen and had to deal with many different situations that can arise.

Alongside Grant and the staff, I hope to bring a stronger professional attitude towards the game which will help the players massively.

What are your hopes for moving the Academy forwards?

Myself and Grant set high standards both on and off the pitch, if we can get that to where we think it can be, it should hold us in good stead going forwards. Winning and having a happy changing room always helps with the day-to-day running of any Academy, so our positive early results this season have got things moving quickly.
