Coughlan Hits Hat Trick In Academy Win
The Academy started the brighter of the sides as they dominated possession, all that was missing was the final ball to create a clear cut chance. It Was Wootton who made the first break through on 22 minutes, following a cross from the left wing. The re start saw the Reds control the game once more, still maintaining a high percentage of the ball. This patience soon paid off as the Academy got back onto level terms. Coughlan hit his first goal of his three, as he found himself on the end of a well worked team effort on 32 minutes. Neither side created a further chance in the first half, as the sides went in level at half time.
The second half began as a much tighter game, with both sides seeing good spells on the ball. It was however the Reds that found themselves in front through Coughlan’s second of the game. Jesse McCarty’s swung in a corner that led to a scramble in the six yard box, where the ball fell to Coughlan who smashed the ball into net. The Academy side soon made it 3-1, this time an Aaron Van Niekerk made a solo run and hit a long range shot into the far corner. Wootton did not sit back as they searched for an answer, but were denied by two great saves from the Academy’s man in the sticks Daniel Perry. With 79 minutes played the Reds gave themselves a three goal cushion as Coughlan rounded off his hat trick with a well-placed shot from the edge of the box. The scoring did not stop there as Wootton struck late, to make the game finish 4-2.
This result sees the Reds climb to fifth in the table as they line up to face AFC Kempston next weekend. In the week the Academy will make the long trip to Guiseley as they face off in the Football Conference Youth Alliance League Cup First Round. Friday will also see the Reds in action against Brooke House in the Central Conference Reserve League, with the game being an 11am kick off at Harborough Town FC.
